Paula increased the Police Department’s budget by $10+ million and put 95 officers back into community policing in a vote that was even applauded by Governor Greg Abbott (see "News" section). Paula voted against a proposed 8% property tax increase. She listened to small businesses and homeowners which resulted in her voting twice in two years to reduce Dallas’ tax rate. She will work hard to keep our taxes low, while ensuring transparency and accountability in the city budget even with the economic challenges posed by the pandemic.
Paula, seen here at Winsted & White Rock, has repeatedly delivered on her pledge to complete long stalled transportation projects like the Gus Thomasson & Ferguson intersection, and the Lakeland Bridge & East Lawther. She's also secured funding for complete streets projects at Highland & Ferguson and Lakeland & Ferguson, and Paula works closely with neighborhoods to create transportation solutions and safer roads throughout the district.
Paula focuses on improving our quality of life in East Dallas with a heavy emphasis on protecting and improving White Rock Lake. She secured funding for the Dredging Feasibility Study while working with community partners and neighbors to protect the Old Fish Hatchery. Paula is a leader and is active in many Dallas civic and community organizations. She and her husband Barry, a Dallas architect, live in the Hillside neighborhood in East Dallas. They have three boys: Aaron is a Texas Tech graduate and works for Lockheed Martin; Evan is a Woodrow Wilson graduate and is currently attending college; and Reid attends Woodrow Wilson and is a member of the Wildcats’ basketball team.
